Estes trapos serão, daqui a uns tempos, um tapete para o quarto dos bebés. Está a demorar mais do que eu pensava porque tenho que cortar os tecidos em tiras e cosê-los uns aos outros. Quando estiver pronto, mostro.

These rags will be, in a few weeks, a rug for the babies's room. The process is taking longer than I thought because I have to cut the fabric in stipes and sew them together. I'll show it when it's finished.

A preparar o Natal | Getting ready for Christmas

A pensar no Natal, deixo-vos alguns dos trabalhos que consegui terminar para a minha mini loja/ prateleira no Esplanada. Carteiras, écharpes e cadernos é o que tenho para mostrar para já. Mais virá!

Thinking about Christmas, I leave you with some of the items I've finished for my small shop/ shelf at Esplanada. Wallets, infinity scarves and notebooks, that's what I have to show so far. More will come!

Brinquedo de lata | Can toy tutorial

Há algum tempo que ando a procurar na net jogos e atividades que os bebés possam fazer. Encontrei esta ideia num site que não gravei, numa das minhas incursões pelo Pinterest. É um jogo divertido para os bebés. A ideia é colocar tampas variadas de frascos dentro de uma lata. Só precisamos de uma lata com tampa (eu usei uma lata de leite) e de tecido para forrar a lata e a tampa. Depois, é só juntar tampas para o jogo ficar completo. Quantas mais, melhor!

I've been browsing the web for some time in search of games and activities for toddlers. I found this idea in a site that I didn't save during one of my visits to Pinterest. It's a fun game for toddlers. They just have to put small lids from bottles inside a bigger can. We just need a can with a lid (I used a milk powder can) and fabric to cover the can and the lid. Then, we just have to collect the lids and the game is ready. The more, the merrier!

1. Materiais: 1 lata com tampa, tecido, x-ato, cola

1. Materials: 1 can with lid, fabric, x-acto knife, glue

2. Corte um retângulo na tampa.
2. Cut a rectangle on the lid.

3. Coloque a tampa sobre a parte de trás do tecido e trace a sua forma com um lápis.

3. Place the lid on the back of the fabric and trace arround it with a pencil.

4. Corte o círculo pela linha.
4. Cut the circle through the line.

5. Com a ajuda de um pincel, ponha cola na tampa e cole o círculo de tecido.
5. With a brush, put glue on the lid and stick the circle on it.

6. Faça um corte em X na abertura.

6. Make an X cut on the opening of the lid.

7. Cole os pedaços de tecido ao interior da tampa.
7. Glue the scraps of fabric to the back of the lid.

8. Coloque cola na lata e aplique o tecido.
8. Put glue on the can and apply the fabric.

9. Para terminar, ponha cola no início do tecido para sobrepor a outra ponta.
9. To finish, put some glue on the begining of the fabric to overlap the other side.

A Francisca e o Tomás gostaram da brincadeira, principalmente da parte em que as tampas estão dentro da lata e fazem muito barulho quando se abana...

Em preparação | Getting ready

O trabalho de cortar tecido é, para mim, o mais aborrecido nesta coisa da costura. De vez em quando lá me esforço por preparar os projetos e, para facilitar o trabalho, corto muitos tecidos de uma só vez. Estes vão servir para fazer carteiras.

Cutting fabric is the part of the projects that I like less.  So sometimes I cut a big bunch of fabric to make things easy. This bunch will make wallets.

kitty vs iron man

Por aqui há sempre aniversários de crianças! É difícil encontrar presentes que sejam diferentes dos que normalmente recebem, por isso, é necessário ser criativo. Aqui ficam duas mochilas com os heróis de cada uma das crianças que as receberam. Fiz a impressão comum stencil feito de papel autocolante. A Kitty não ficou perfeita, mas já não deu para solucionar o problema.... Da próxima vez fica melhor, espero!

There are always children's birthday parties arround here! It's hard to find gifts that are different from the ones they usually get, so one needs to be creative. I made these two backpacks with the heroes of the kids printed on them. I made the stencils with contact paper. Kitty is not well finished but I couldn't fix it... Next time will be better, I hope!

Porta-livros | Book bag

Pediram-me para fazer um saco que desse para guardar um livro e um conjunto de cartões. Tinham que ficar juntos mas as duas partes eram de tamanhos diferentes. Tive que fazer um bolso que serviu de base para guardar o livro e depois fiz outro mais peuqeno para os cartões. Este foi cosido ao bolso maior. Para segurar ambos, coloquei uma fita vermelha que envolve o saco na vertical, como as pastas antigas. A Francisca foi a minha assistente na parte das fotografias!

I was asked to make a bag to carry a book and a set of cards. They had to be together but the size of each part was not the same. So I made a big pocket to hold the book and then I made a smaller pocket for the cards. This one was sewn to the bigger pocket. To hold both parts, I put a red ribbon that goes arround the bag, like those old book bags. Francisca was my assistant during the photo shoot!

E assim começa a azáfama... | And so the rush begins...

Assim que começam as aulas acaba o tempo para costurar e trabalhar nos projetos que tenho pensados. É preciso planear o ano letivo, organizar equipas de trabalho, pensar em atividades diferentes das do ano anterior... Para não falar da papelada que vem anexa!

Ainda assim, lá consegui fazer este saco, uma das encomendas que tenho na lista.

As soon as the school starts my sewing time is over. I must plan the school year, organize work teems, imagine activities that are different from the previous year... Not to mention the paperwork that goes with it!

Still, I've managed to finish this bag, one of the orders I have in my list.

Herbário | Herbarium

Aqui fica a minha primeira incursão no mundo da argila. Apesar de ter raízes familiares nesta área, nunca me dediquei a ela mas sempre tive curiosidade. Usei argila que seca ao ar e uns carimbos de flores. Depois de seco, dei uma pincelada com tinta verde que deixei secar para depois limpar com um pano até obter este resultado.

Here is my first in incursion in the world of clay. Despite having family roots in this area, I've never dedicated myself to it but I always had curiosity about it. I used air drying clay and floral stamps. I let them dry and then I brush them with some green paint. I let the paint dry and then I used a damp cloth to remove most of it until I got this result.

Bolsa para gadgets | Gadgets bag

Pediram-me para fazer uma bolsa que desse para guardar o carregador do computador e o rato. Tinha que ser comprida e prática. Usei mais uma vez este tecido que é bastante versátil. e que muita gente gosta. Aqui fica o resultado.

I was asked to make a bag to store the laptop charger and the mouse. It had to be long and easy to handle. I used once more this fabric, which is quite versatile and that many people like. Here's the result.
